The Hudson Plains Ecozone is a stretch of land along the Hudson Bay coast from Manitoba to Quebec. It is one of Canada's most popular wetlands due to its fascinating geographic and biological aspects. The climate is maritime with precipitation ranging from 400-800mm annually and average summer and winter temperatures of 11°C and -18°C respectively. The terrain is flat with 90% consisting of wetlands and bogs. The soil is covered in permafrost and ground ice, resulting in poor drainage. Flora includes tundra and boreal forest while fauna ranges from insects to large mammals and diversity is highest in summer. Recreational activities include camping, hunting, trapping and viewing the northern lights in winter.
