After high school in the 'burbs of Northern Virginia, I headed west to Eugene, Oregon and the University of Oregon. My first trip out, I distinctly remember the sweet smell of natural pine. Turns out Oregon had everything I never knew I wanted: I fell in love with the rain and moss and snow found in the cathedrals of Cascade pine and fir.
During school, I also fell in love with my bride, Amanda. We finished the UO together, then after a brief diversion in Los Angeles ("Why can we never be alone in this %$#@!ing town?!?!") settled here in Portland.
