According to a 2011 study comparing tobacco use in Maine, 23% of youth used lower-price other tobacco products like cigars, cigarillos, and smokeless tobacco, which was higher than the 13% of adults who used these products. Cigarette smoking was lower, at 8% for youth and 15% for adults. The study found that while cigarettes remained the most commonly used tobacco product among adults, other cheaper non-cigarette options were more popular among youth.
