Tomas Rekem was born and raised in Slovakia. In 1999 and at the age of 13 he immigrated to Canada along with the rest of his family. They moved to Port Credit, Mississauga, which is located in Ontario. He attended secondary school at the Port Credit Secondary School in Mississauga and graduated in 2004. During his time at school, he was actively involved in school athletics and was a member of his school's soccer team.He also regularly plays hockey in his free time during the winter months.
