Tony comes originally from a background as a biologist, then 16 years in the electron microscopy area working with microfossils (in the UK) and marine phytoplankton, invertebrates and fishes (in Australia), followed by a move into data management in 1996. For the past 15 years he has been a hands on data manager working with the marine division of CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, based in Hobart, Tasmania, where among other products and applications he has developed a number of leading solutions in the area of computerized management of biological data (Biodiversity Informatics).
