While both poems deal with speakers who are angry, they do not react in exactly the same way. In "Anger lay by me", the speaker feels anger standing by him all day and night until he surrenders to it completely. However, in "A poison tree", the speaker takes revenge on his foe by letting them eat a poisoned apple, rather than expressing his feelings. Overall, the poems have anger as a theme but portray different reactions - surrender in one and revenge in the other.

Both poems “ A poison tree “ and “ Anger lay by me “ deal with speakers who are
angry. The two speakers react in the same way.
Do you agree?
“Anger lay by me” and “A poison tree” look very similar because both speakers are
angry but they don't react exactly the same way.
First, in “Anger lay by me” the voice is being harassed by his anger all day long “he
stood by me all through the day”. By personifying anger, he means that this feeling
stood by him all day long and also all night talking and saying he would not go. At the
end of the poem he gives up to his anger and surrenders to him by saying “he is my
true-lord and my doom” (Daryush). Now his anger dominates him and his soul
completely.
Second, in “A poison tree” the voice reacts in a revenging form letting his foe eat the
“poisoned apple”. He felt angry with his foe and instead of talking about his feelings he
took revenge on him “I was angry with my friend, my wrath did end. I was angry with
my foe: i told it not, my wrath did grow”. Maybe if the speaker had talked about his
feelings his wrath wouldn`t have grown.
In conclusion, both poems have anger as a theme but both voices react in different
ways. In “Anger lay by me” the voice surrenders to his anger and in “A poison tree” the
voice reacts with revenge and wrath to his foe.
