Joseph Mallord William Turner, often called "the painter of light", as well as "the great pyrotechnist", was born in London, England on April 23, 1775, at his parents home on 21 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden.
Turner once noted his admiration of women in the margins of one of his sketchbooks by writing:
"There is not a quality or endowment, facility or ability, which is not in a superior degree possesst(sic) by women"
