This document compares classical realism and meta realism in ideology. Classical realism demanded complete acceptance of illusion, while meta realism continuously deconstructs and critiques itself, giving the subject a stronger sense of mastery through revealing its own machinery. The emergence of meta realism can be related to cultural changes where new technologies have redefined standards of illusionism and interactive experience. Examples of emerging technologies that enable new forms of interactive narratives and illusionism through motion sensors, projection mapping, holograms, and glasses-free 3D are discussed.
