The student feels unprepared for the workforce after college because courses are too theoretical without enough emphasis on practical skills. They think college should provide more opportunities to learn practical aspects of different fields. The student is stressed about having to learn many practical skills through additional job training after graduating due to not feeling prepared by their theoretical college education. The problem is the student needs a way to gain practical skills and experience for employment while in college to feel ready for work after graduation.

• Lack of practical preparation in College.
Classes are highly theoretical, with not
enough emphasis on doing.
3. Empathy Map -Do

and others.
• Reads assigned books and others
• Turns in papers as required
• Has been given no practical space to learn
what is out there in the work field.
4. Empathy Map - Think
• I think the student is concerned about going
into the workforce without practical
experience.
• I’m thinking student feels that 4 years of
college should have the practical aspect built
in.
5. Empathy Map - Feel
• Student feels the job training required at most
employment places is a waste of time.
• I feel the stress of students not feeling
prepared for the workforce, or for the
demands work is going to put on their
learning curve.
6. Problem Statement
• Student needs a way to prepare for the
practical aspects of post-college
employment, because the majority of college
courses are heavily theoretical, and he feels
he will not be ready.
