HTML5 is the latest version of the standard markup language for the World Wide Web with a new set of elements and attributes that improve structure and behavior. It has been in development by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG) since 2008 to provide richer semantics and better support for cutting-edge web development. Key new features include the canvas element for 2D/3D graphics, channel messaging for communication between browsing contexts, and Web SQL for client-side storage of structured data.
