3. Chikankari
Lucknow Chikankari is the form of embroidery work where pristine thread is used to make intricate
floral patterns on cotton or silken cloth. This style of embroidery has gained prominence all over the
world on account of its innate, indomitable charm and beauty. The word chikan has Persian roots and
takes its name from `chikin or `chikeen which refers to embroidered fabric. This art is borne out of
regal traditions and bears significance due to its origin in the Mughal Period to the era of Oudh Nawabs
in the seventeenth century. It is believed that this exquisite artwork was introduced in India by
Noorjahan, wife of Emperor Jahangir
