This document discusses NetBackup's capabilities for backing up large databases and big data. It begins by defining big data and describing the evolution from databases to data warehouses to today's big data. It then outlines how NetBackup has evolved to protect these environments, including agents for major databases, data warehouses, and Hadoop. New in NetBackup 7.6 is an Oracle Intelligent Policy that automatically discovers Oracle instances, generates optimized RMAN scripts, and manages backups more simply.

28. SYMANTEC VISION 2012
Oracle Intelligent Backup
? Optimized Dedupe Backup
¨C Agent will detect if a dedupe storage unit is being used and tune backup for optimized
performance
¨C Requirements
? Dedupe storage unit selected in policy
? Stream based backup (non-snapshot)
? Full schedule type
? Optimized Dedupe Backup Behavior
¨C Non ASM
? Incremental level 0 non-snapshot proxy RMAN backup
? Single RMAN channel allocated
? NB_ORA_PC_STREAMS set to number of parallel streams specified in policy
¨C ASM
? Incremental level 0 stream based backup
? Behavior influenced by FILESPERSET parameter specified in policy
? If FILESPERSET has not been overridden in policy, agent will set this parameter to 1 for the backup
? If FILESPERSET has been overridden to a value greater than 1, the agent will log a warning message in the job details
stating that setting FILESPERSET 1 will give better dedupe performance
