Abstract:
T-REX is a atmosphere light which can only be turn on by lights, with HCI and
embodied design techniques, we are able to set up the system and run programs to
bring a new and special experience to household illumination area.
To breakthrough the traditional ground of power switches and interaction between
human and lamps, we analyzed the action of turn on and turn off, and use the Laban
Movement Analysis to summed up the movements and create a way which the user¨s
action based on perception, not through acknowledgement or understanding, the goal
is to switch on the original reflection toward light in order to enhance the sentiment in
living spaces.

1.Introduction:
We can¨t see things without light, but the strong image and presence of light
originally came from fire. Since human knew how to use fire, the feature of light were
connected with heat, radiation and transitive of energy. To simulate the original experience
of light and fire, we try to extract some elements from those features and transform
them into an intuitive way to use.
The interaction design should be easily understood, bring users with nice
experience and create certain kind of purpose.
2.Design Approach:
Several concepts, metaphors and movements had been tried. And finally we finish
the discussion by define clear annotation.T-REX was developed in two main parts, the
design parts and the engineer parts. The design part went through analysis, metaphor
definition, function and appearance organization.
We studied several tangible interaction designs first, and make them into annotation
references. The analysis include Laban movement analysis, the metaphor express, and
annotate the relationship with users. Then we construct our own annotation by setting the
background of usage scenarios.
The engineer part we use arduino as our intel controller, and program editing tool.
The process mainly were coding, testing and welding. Rhino was our model building
software and we print the structure out from the 3D printer.
3.Annotation of reference work
This is the reference of our annotation work.The project^Ah ̄is made of rubber as
the shape of the Japan word character "Ah", it is a word which can be used in almost every
kind of situations, happy, angry, sad, nervous, and more. In different situations, the sound
and tone of the "Ah" will be different, and the audiences interact with this work can squeeze,
pull, pinch or even hit it, the "ah" will perform different tones corresponds to the movement
differ the degrees.
The process are building 3D models, 3D printing, writing codes and welding.
Our annotation of it are:
1. Use the sense of touch to deliver mood of the word "Ah".
2. Different movements of soft and strong represent the tone of "Ah"
3. The beauty of neutral phrase.
4. The texture shows the abstract nature of language.

4. Embody metaphor of design
Metaphor plays a very important part in our interaction design, the role of it offers
the structure of interaction and movements, designers will follow the metaphor to construct
the basic deciplines.
Our metaphor is  ̄Light is fire ̄, in our work we try to present the nature of fire such as
transitive and extinguish after a while, and transfer the structure and appearence into a more
abstract shape in order to purify the feature we want to appear most.
The way to light up the candle is similar to light up T-REX
10.Richness of the interaction
Laban is an integrate system help us view and analyze the movements of turning on
and off. Time, space, weight and flow, to inspect the status of different movements four clear
dimension can be the guide of establishing our own rules. And the following forms are two
types of action with different way of turn un and off.

The movement is sustained and boundless
Through analyzing the different movement, we found our way to express our
situation, we hope this light can bring softness and peace to the users, so you can light
up the light with flow between three lights. And while you light it up longer, the light will
be brighter. This is our way of the Movement of expression, and how we communicate
with the light.
Metaphor can also erose the similar feeling of the experience, we will feel sort of emotion
related to the movements, like warmth or peaceful.
You can choose how many light you want to ignite.
10.Usage Senarios
A senario set on the living room where users read books.
First open the flashlight in phone Ignite the lights and enhance the brightness by keep
lighting it.
Read the book.Light up the numbers you want.
11.Conclusion
Through this project exercises, the purpose and metaphor had been practiced. First of
all we want to^ignite the deep perception about connections between light and fire ̄. Once we
woke up the user¨s instinct to operate Light up the light, they can follow their intuition as same
as they deal with candles, or other light sources using fire. Features and pattern can be
duplicated on this system with logic and predictable factors.
The second part is about to create the spaces in the interaction, there are free possibilities to let
users try their own way lighting up the light, flash light, another lamp, or a even a real candle.
Also, there are some uncertainty sequences when the users forced it to turn off, in general
situation, the lights will gradually extinguish after a while but clapping your hands will lead the
way to random turned off.
When the user want to turn it off before it extinguish itself.
Put down the book. Clap the hands softly.
Till all the light turn off.` Leave.
