England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom located in northwestern Europe, sharing land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. Modern humans first inhabited the area now called England during the Upper Paleolithic period, and by 1284 the Kingdom of England had come to include Wales within its territory.
