I first became interested in computers when my dad opened a box containing a Sinclair ZX Spectrum and the cassette deck we hooked up to it started making noises and loading a game onto the TV screen in front of us.
About ten years later, after dabbling around with some BASIC programming I was sitting in the Merseyside Maritime Museum watching a telecast from the JASON Project expedition in the Belize jungle. I'd been getting more and more interested in Earth Science - but here with the banks of computers was a way of combing the two things I really enjoyed.
