MEDIA RELEASE 25/11/2015 Pine Rivers Heritage Museum Recognised as Finalist at Queensland Gallery and Museum Awards Museums & Galleries Queensland (M&G QLD) proudly announced the recipients of the 2015 Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA) at a gala event hosted by The University of Queensland Art Museum on Thursday 19 November 2015. The Pine Rivers Heritage Museum, in Whiteside north of Brisbane, was recognised as a Finalist for its outstanding achievement in the category of Projects: Organisations with Paid Staff for its project Napoleons Last Gamble. In awarding the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum as a Finalist in this category, the judges acknowledged the historical significance of the project. This project consisted of an exhibition and a series of associated public programs commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo and the final downfall of Frances Emperor Napoleon. Displaying items of international significance such as original uniforms, equipment, relics and images, the exhibition explored the impact of the French Revolution, the rise to power of Napoleon and the years of conflict. Adding Australian and local relevance, Napoleons Last Gamble included components dealing with the legacies of the Napoleonic wars in Australia, including the stories of veterans of this conflict who later served or settled in Australia. One of the key aims of the project was to develop long-term partnerships between the Museum and local historians and private collectors and collecting groups. A series of public programs included talks by the curator and collectors, school holiday workshops and a Regency Supper Dance. Presented by Museums & Galleries Queensland, the GAMAA celebrate the outstanding achievements, professional excellence, and innovation of Queenslands museum and gallery sector.
