Personality disorders in its always sunny in philadelphiaSidhanth Narula
油
Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance and lack of empathy. People with this disorder seek constant admiration, have a sense of entitlement, and often take advantage of others. The causes may include biological and social factors such as early life experiences. Those with a grandiose delusion have an even more exaggerated sense of self-worth, believing they have special abilities or connections, and feelings of power and importance without limits. Symptoms include pompous behavior, unrealistic goals and plans, and lack of consideration for others.
Psychological abuse refers to a series of repeated incidents that insult, humiliate, threaten, degrade, isolate or control another person. It can occur intentionally or unintentionally. Psychological abuse often follows a cycle of tension building, an incident of abuse, reconciliation, and calm before tension begins building again. It can occur within families, partnerships, or the workplace. Risk factors include emotional abuse of children, poverty, substance abuse, and male-dominated or religious societies that promote abuse. Solutions include the victim seeking help, establishing mental stability through therapy, and the abuser receiving counseling depending on legal rulings.
Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by unstable emotions, self-image, and relationships. It is more common in women and linked to childhood abandonment, family disruption, abuse, and poor communication. Symptoms include uncertain identity, extreme views of self and others, fear of abandonment, impulsiveness, and self-injury. Treatment focuses on group therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and individual therapy to address issues and prevent drug abuse, depression, relationship problems, and suicide risks.
This document discusses social stigma surrounding domestic violence. It notes that domestic violence can take physical, verbal, sexual, and controlling forms. Victimization of women is common due to myths that blame the victim and justify the abuser's behavior. The stigma makes it hard for victims to report abuse or leave relationships due to fears of not being believed or supported. Children who witness domestic violence are also impacted by the trauma. The document calls for addressing social attitudes that normalize and excuse domestic violence.
This phenomenon has little content in professional literature and on the internet, especially bullying by the female spouse. Domestic bullying occurs when a spouse engages in frequent criticism, threats, insults, emotional manipulation, demeaning language or bouts of anger, and is a major problem resulting in family and marriage breakdown, depression, homicide, suicide, addiction, homelessness, criminality and mental distress leading to cycles of abuse for the adult children of family bullying.
Emotional abuse can have long-lasting negative effects on children and youth. It is connected to the relationship between the victim and abuser. Emotional abuse can lead to physical effects like speech problems, eating disorders, and substance abuse as well as behavioral effects such as low self-worth, inability to trust others, depression, aggression, and risky behaviors. Boys may display aggression, bullying, disobedience, while girls tend to be withdrawn, approval-seeking, and compliant.
1. The document discusses healthy relationships and defines key aspects like rapport, respect, trust, common interests, commitment, and compromise that build strong relationships.
2. It describes different types of relationships like family, friendships, casual, and romantic relationships.
3. The document also discusses bullying, defining it as when someone is repeatedly picked on by someone more powerful. It outlines different types of bullying like physical, verbal, social/emotional, and cyberbullying.
Affairs of the Heart - Crossing the Line into Emotional AffairsBarry Slone
油
Dr. Barry Slone is a psychologist in Aliso Viejo, California who treats individuals for issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship problems. The document discusses how emotional affairs can be just as damaging to relationships as physical affairs due to breaches of trust and intimacy. It notes that emotional affairs often begin as innocent friendships that grow stronger over time, causing distance between partners. The document stresses that emotional affairs can devastate relationships and lists signs like excessive contact with others, secrecy, withdrawn affection, arguments, and denial of close relationships beyond friendship.
The document discusses the effects of incest on victims and their adult intimate relationships. It notes that incest often results in low self-esteem, confidence issues, and physical and mental health problems. The age at which the incest occurred can predict the severity of aftereffects, with younger victims typically experiencing more severe impacts. Victims of incest may struggle in adulthood with social and sexual relationships as well as their self-image as a result of their traumatic childhood experiences with incest.
1 in 4 children in America are exposed to alcoholism in their families, which brings chaos. Family members adopt rigid roles like the alcoholic, enabler, scapegoat, hero, and lost child to cope. The alcoholic loses their identity and takes on health issues. The enabler excels to raise family esteem while feeling guilty. The scapegoat acts out to divert focus, and the lost child feels empty. Children experience tension, fear, and inconsistent parenting.
Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse developed a theory identifying typical roles adopted by members of dysfunctional families with substance abuse issues. These roles - the substance abuser, chief enabler, family hero, family scapegoat, lost child, and family mascot - each serve a purpose in reducing family tension but also negatively impact development. For example, the family hero takes on responsibilities to provide pride, but risks health issues from stress, while the family scapegoat bears blame intended for the substance abuser. Wegscheider-Cruse's theory provides insight into dysfunctional family dynamics and how roles in childhood can influence problems in adulthood.
The document discusses the effects of domestic violence on children and the treatment options available to help them. It states that children who witness domestic violence are at risk of emotional and developmental problems, and may struggle with anxiety, depression, poor self-image, substance abuse, and suicidal thoughts. It also notes that therapy options for children like play therapy, art, counseling, and family therapy can help children and their families rebuild and develop healthy coping mechanisms. The document encourages those affected to seek help at The Harbor for support services.
There are four main types of child abuse: physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse. Physical abuse involves physically harming a child through actions like punching, beating, or burning. Neglect is characterized by failure to provide for a child's basic needs like health care, supervision, or attending to educational needs. Sexual abuse includes inappropriate sexual acts or behaviors with a child. Emotional abuse involves acts or omissions that could seriously harm a child's behavioral or mental health. These types often occur together, and emotional abuse is commonly present alongside other forms of maltreatment.
Adult Children of Alcoholics" was presented on May 19, 2009 by MaryGrace Fisher, LLMSW, CAAC; Dawn Farm Huron Street therapist. Physiological barriers to communication can occur due to physical health conditions of the sender or receiver that impact communication. Physical defects like stammering, poor eyesight, or illnesses can disrupt communication if any body organs necessary for communication are not functioning properly. Psychological barriers are caused by human psychological problems and operate at the emotional level. Emotions like fear, anger, and worry can block the mind and blur thinking, preventing messages from being organized and conveyed effectively. Status differences and differences in individual perceptions due to unique emotional makeup, knowledge, experiences, and mindsets can also distort communication.
Coping with loss , and death ppt- By Ms. Ritika soniShimla

Loss is a universal human experience that can occur throughout life. There are several types of loss, including maturational loss resulting from normal life transitions, situational loss from sudden external events, and personal loss requiring adaptation through grieving. Coping with loss involves both problem-focused strategies aimed at modifying the stressor's source, and emotion-focused strategies aimed at managing the emotional impact, such as meditation, biofeedback, relaxation techniques, spiritual practices, humor, and developing new skills. Effectively coping with loss is important for reducing anxiety, depression, and health problems.
This document discusses child abuse, defining it as mistreatment or neglect of a child by a trusted adult that can cause physical, emotional, or psychological harm. There are four main types of child abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. Child abuse can negatively impact children's self-esteem, behavior, academic performance, and mental and physical health. The document suggests ways to help prevent child abuse, such as offering support to stressed parents, listening to those in crisis, and assisting protective programs.
Expressed emotions refer to the amount and type of emotions that relatives express towards a family member with a psychological disorder when they are not present. There are two types - high expressed emotions, which are hostile, critical, or overly involved, and low expressed emotions, which are reserved and accepting. High expressed emotions can lead to increased relapse in the patient's disorder due to feelings of being trapped or dependent. Cultural and social factors can influence the level of expressed emotions.
This document discusses different types of child abuse, including physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and psychological abuse. Physical abuse involves harming a child through physical contact. Neglect involves failing to provide for a child's basic needs. Sexual abuse involves an adult using a child for sexual stimulation. Psychological abuse can cause trauma through behaviors that mentally harm a child. The document provides tips for parents to help protect children and look for signs of potential abuse.
This document discusses the effects of substance abuse on families and children. Prenatal substance exposure can cause low birth weight, birth defects, developmental delays, and other health issues for babies. Children of parents with substance abuse issues are more likely to experience neglect, abuse, behavioral and psychological problems. They often take on unhealthy family roles like the hero, scapegoat, lost child or mascot to cope. The document provides recommendations for helping children in these situations and emphasizes that treatment for addiction is available and can be effective.
Sexual abuse involves any unwanted sexual contact with someone under 18 or significantly younger, emotional abuse damages self-esteem through criticism and threats, physical abuse causes injuries through actions like hitting or burning, and neglect lacks proper care and attention that can have long-lasting effects.
The document discusses different types of family violence against children including psychological, sexual, and physical violence. It notes that children are often psychologically insulted or humiliated by family members, and are most at risk of sexual abuse from someone they know like a family member. Physical violence against children can include punching, kicking, slapping, or beating them painfully. The document also discusses causes of violence against children such as coming from unhappy families with issues like drug or alcohol abuse, gender inequality, exposure to violence in media or from peers, and lack of parental care. Both physical and mental health impacts are described such as potential criminal charges, disability, death, as well as aggressive, depressed, or anxious behaviors. Ways to prevent

This document discusses cultivating mindfulness, compassion, and optimism for people living with ALS. It provides quotes from people with ALS about finding meaning and curiosity in their disease. It then outlines various assessments, practices, and strategies for developing eudaemonic well-being through higher purpose, community, self-compassion, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment rather than just hedonic happiness. These include cultivating optimism, mindfulness, self-compassion, gratitude, and giving back to others.
Early attachment disturbances and trauma can lead to narcissism and addiction as coping mechanisms for emotional needs. Shame, from not having dependency needs met as a child, is a core belief for many addicts. Healthy relationships and intimacy through recovery can help meet needs in a healthy way and reduce shame. Therapists must confront, contain, educate, and work within the relationship to help clients replace addictions with healthy coping skills.
This document discusses different types of psychological abuse and their effects. It describes how emotional abuse aims to undermine self-worth and independence through verbal abuse like yelling and name-calling, as well as behaviors like isolation, intimidation and control. While physical abuse can cause visible harm, the document asserts that emotional abuse can be equally or more damaging due to its psychological effects and the tendency of victims to blame themselves. Specifically, it notes emotional abuse happens frequently and makes the victim feel it is their own fault, whereas physical abuse is easier to recognize as the abuser's problem. Overall, the document outlines the insidious nature and long-lasting impacts of emotional abuse.

The document discusses the environmental impacts of single-use plastic water bottles and calls for switching to reusable bottles. It notes that plastic water bottles take over 1,000 years to biodegrade, 80% become litter, and their production requires over 1.5 million barrels of oil in the US alone each year. This harms both the environment and aquatic wildlife. The document advocates for reusable bottles as a safer alternative.

Effective 2010, ships must use low-sulfur fuel within 200 miles of the North American coast. Since a 2009 California regulation requiring low-sulfur distillate fuel within 24 miles, loss of propulsion incidents have increased over 100%. Distillate fuel causes more wear on engine components than heavy fuel oil. Refiners may cut distillate fuel with inexpensive additives causing increased catalytic fines and poor combustion properties. Ship operators should practice fuel switching procedures and have senior engineers monitor engines when entering California ports to prevent potential loss of propulsion incidents and oil spills.
