- 4. THE CAPE PATERSON HOME . Cape Paterson is a cape and seaside village located next to the town of wonthaggi, Victoria , Australia. Cape Paterson Home is a housing scheme with all 230 units of home at least 7.5 stars on the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme. The development boasts the title Australia’s most sustainable housing development .

- 6. THE CAPE PATERSON HOME – Beaumont concepts Core 9. Seating on an area of 131m2 core 9 units designed by Beaumont concepts architects is specifically designed for the climate and adapted for energy rating from 6 to 10 star.
- 7. MATERIAL AND TECHNOLOGY . The core 9 integrates sustainable materials with a low embodied energy. Masonry wall with high thermal mass is used to absorb and retain heat in interiors.
- 8. ORIENTATION AND VENTILATION. The design was adapted to increase northern light and maximize cross ventilation. Through constant refinement wasted space was eliminated such as hallways and entrance areas reducing heating and cooling loads as well as construction cost.
- 9. Windows at front and back few openings on the East- for cross ventilation. West wall.
- 10. Shading techniques. Shading of openings achieved by use of overhungs and wooden pergola for entracnces and in some instances recessed walls.

- 12. CARBON POSITIVE AND ZERO WASTE. A carbon positive home uses renewable energy sources to generate enough clean energy for the mone operational needs. Zero wastes by adapting design to use standard material lengths to minimize off-cuts. Selection of materails which are recycled or have ability to be up- cycled avoids construction waste contributing to landfill.
- 13. ECONOMICS AND RECYCLABILITY. Selection of materials has been influenced by ability of each component to be manufactured with recycled content to reduce raw material extract with the ability to be recycled . Designed to balance energy efficiency, optimal thermal performance and operational efficiencies to reduce the cost of running core homes and a mix of solar water heater, solar power and rain water havesting.
- 14. Environmentally friendly building products with low embodied energy and materials with minimal maintainance and longevity.

- 16. Standard construction methods used but in a different way to increase performance. For example the use of the inverted roof truss allows more light into the building but does not require specialist methods.
