The Olney Pancake Race dates back to 1445 and commemorates a woman who was late for church on Shrove Tuesday and ran while still holding her frying pan and wearing an apron. Now, the annual race takes place on Shrove Tuesday in Olney, England and features women residents racing down the High Street while tossing pancakes and wearing traditional attire. The race has also formed a transatlantic link with Liberal, Kansas which holds a similar pancake race on the same day, and racers from both towns compete for the fastest time.
