Section 4.4 employment business focused applications in the cloudAssociation of CollegesThe document discusses several projects undertaken by UK colleges to utilize cloud computing applications to support employer engagement and work-based learning.
Bolton College provided work-based assessors with Chromebooks and Google Apps to access resources like e-portfolios and track learner progress remotely. Barking and Dagenham College used Google Apps for enterprise learners and customized administrative functions. Telford College set up a website and "app store" for local businesses to access open-source software hosted in their private cloud.
The projects aimed to provide flexible access to information for remote learners and engage employers. While connectivity issues arose, overall the colleges found benefits like increased flexibility, cost savings, and improved services for learners, staff
YeovilAssociation of CollegesYeovil College is planning for the new Study Programmes being introduced in 2013/14. The college aims to ensure students' rounded development is retained through non-qualification activities like volunteering and sports. Additional time has been allocated in student timetables for these activities. The college will use an electronic tracking system called eTracker to record students' progress across qualification and non-qualification activities, including directed study, work experience, employability skills, sports enrichment, and volunteering. This approach will enable all of a student's personal development to be credited equally alongside their academic achievements.
Section 4.2 finance, hr and payroll services in the cloudAssociation of CollegesThe document summarizes two projects that moved finance systems to the cloud - a multi-college project called FE Sussex involving 8 colleges, and a single college project at Isle of Wight College.
For the FE Sussex project, change management was identified as the biggest challenge to ensure the 7,000 users across colleges adopted common business processes. This project is expected to save £75,000 annually by reducing in-college servers.
The Isle of Wight College project encountered technical issues during testing but has since seen staff find the new cloud-based system easier to use. It is projected to save £18,000 annually along with staff time savings.
Both projects aim to improve services and achieve cost savings through moving
Section 4.5 learner focused applications in the cloudAssociation of CollegesThe document summarizes projects using cloud computing applications to improve access to learning tools for further education colleges. It discusses projects that used Google Apps, SharePoint, virtual desktops, and video platforms to provide learners access to software from any device both on and off campus. The projects aimed to increase engagement and support access for those with disabilities. Delivery methods varied but commonly provided single sign-on access to applications across different locations through public or private clouds.
Bringing Contemporary Art to WikipediaSanna HirvonenThis document discusses bringing contemporary art information to Wikipedia through collaborations between art museums, libraries, and Wikimedia organizations. It describes edit-a-thon events hosted by the Kiasma art museum and Wikimedia Finland where volunteers work together over one day or more to add and improve Wikipedia articles related to contemporary art and the participating institutions. These events aim to increase awareness of contemporary art and open cultural collections by making information and resources more accessible on Wikipedia. The document encourages cultural institutions to engage with Wikipedia as part of their regular work through various activities like hosting edit-a-thons, donating images and works to Wikimedia Commons, directly editing Wikipedia articles, and participating in the Wikipedian in Residence program.

Wikipedia editing events aka edit-a-thons have many functions and goals. I see them as a channel to reach and influence GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) professionals. The events can be a start for something bigger.
