BRAINSTORMING IDEAS
Savin’ Me - Nickelback
The idea that we have come up with is a mysterious character/average looking
person is growing up like every human being does but instead we follow him on
his journey to see what choices he makes in his life. Half of the person's body
will be written with positive things to do with his life and the other half
negative things, which would represent how he's deciding on what he wants to
do with his life and how he could end up anywhere.
The writing on his body will be all over the place, it won’t be straight and in
order. Some words will be big and some words will be slanted, this is to show
how confused the main character is. The writing on the main character’s body
will only be shown for the performance shots but we may decide that the
public should react to the writing, if our main character is sitting down we can
do a time lapse of people looking and showing the viewer what the general
public think of the writing.
Costumes and locations
 Everyday clothes: this is for shots of his everyday life, he will be wearing a
white shirt, jumper, blue jeans and shoes. We want to make it clear that he
  is an average person.
 Writing on body: he will only have boxer shorts on so that all of his body can
get writing on there, this will let us emphasis the fact that half of his body is
good and half is bad because both legs will also be covered. The writing will
be black on the left, and red on the right.
 High street: when the main character is sitting down for his time lapse, this
  will show the public reaction.
 London: there will be some shots of London and the main character walking
around to make the right choices in his life.
 Home: same as London, at home he will be making choices of his life.
Application to lyrics
The idea would go well with the lyrics, these are some examples of lyrics that we have ideas for:
"Heaven's gates won't open up for me and with these broken wings I'm falling, and all I see is you"
For me, the lyrics show how his life is incomplete. He cannot go to heaven because the gates won’t open, he is
falling because he is not getting the thing that he wants and all he see’s is the thing that will complete him.
"Show me what it's like...to be the last one standing and teach me wrong from right"
We thought of a point of view shot where the character is looking at the writing on his left arm/hand and turns to
look at the writing on his right arm/hand as if he's literally looking at "wrong" and "right" thing to do with his life.
This shows how his mind seems disorientated thinking about this life choice and the journey we go through when
making choices, how easy it is to make a right and wrong choice. His hands are the his conscience, or the good
and bad angel.
Like previously said, the lyrics mentions heavens gates, but in a verse it mentions prisons gates too:
"Prison gates won't open up for me"
"Heaven's gates won't open up for me"
So this could still be in reference to choosing between right and wrong things in his life, or that he needs to make
his choices so that either prison gates or heaven gates will open for him. More lyrics that will reference this is the
name of the song "Savin' Me", the song is about Saving someone, in this case it would be saving the person from
choosing the wrong path in their life.
