This document summarizes the installation of an energy conservation turbine (ECT) at a textile plant in India to recover energy from steam throttling. The 360 kW ECT was installed in July 2015 at Durga Polyester to generate power from steam exiting at 3.5 bar(g) after entering at 11.5 bar(g). It generates over 2.85 million kWh annually, saving $190,000 per year with a payback period of less than 2 years. The ECT improves process efficiency while reducing carbon footprint and energy costs.
