A student survey was conducted at Castlemaine North Primary School in 2010 to understand attitudes of grades 5 and 6 students towards school. The survey analyzed and compared responses based on gender and grade level, looking at differences between boys and girls in grades 5 and 6 as well as comparing responses from grades 5 and 6 to previous years.

A standardized questionnaire was used to collect data on student attitudes. The results showed that student attitudes differed based on gender, locality of the school, type of school, and type of school management. Male students, students from urban schools, students at co-educational schools, and students at government schools had more positive attitudes on average than other groups. The study concluded that developing positive student attitudes through classroom activities can help enhance pupils' motivation to learn English.
