I write the "Matter" column for the New York Times, along with features for magazines such as National Geographic and Scientific American. I am the author of the award-winning blog, the Loom, at National Geographic. In 1998 I published my first book; I've written a dozen so far, including two textbooks about evolution (one for biology majors, the other for non-majors).
I have received awards for my work from the National Academy of Sciences and the American Association for Science Writing.
