This document describes a portable thermal energy storage concept called "Canned Heat" using adsorption. It has several potential opportunities including providing space heating using only battery power for first responders or storing heat indefinitely at room temperature without insulation. The concept involves modular units that store heat through adsorption of water onto a synthetic adsorbent material. When needed, stored heat is released by adding humid air which causes desorption and releases hot air using only a battery-powered fan. A 20kg unit could store about 6KW of thermal energy indefinitely without insulation required. Simple product concepts include energy storage appliances, modular energy storage banks, room heaters, and emergency vehicle or seasonal heating.
