In Revelation Chapter 18, the coming destruction of Jerusalem, the nation and the temple in AD 70 is revealed. Babylon and its destruction is used to signify Jerusalem. Internal comments in the chapter indicate this. There is another angel or messenger, if properly translated, who provided John with this information. Remember that John was told to write these things down for the seven churches in Asia. He says that Babylon is fallen because of the demons, foul spirit's and unclean birds who were there. She is said to commit fornication, spiritually speaking, with the nations and kings of the earth. The religious leaders of the nation and Jerusalem had accepted the gods of those nations as they dealt with the merchants, doing business with them, enriching herself and them. These sins were evident to God and He was going to take action against her by rewarding her double according to her works. She had glorified herself, convinced that she sat as a queen, not a widow and not receiving any sorrow. But this is not how God viewed her. Her plagues were going to occur and she would be utterly burned with fire. The Lord was going to judge her for her unfaithfulness. The messenger tells John of the kings and merchants who would witness this punishment from a distance, seeing the smoke from her burning and the torment involved. They are more concerned about the merchandise that they would not be able to sell her anymore. An extensive list of these wares is in the text. But in the end, she becomes desolate. The problem of materialism is illustrated here and we remember that the church in Laodicea had this problem. Toward the end of the chapter we find that the apostles and prophets are told to rejoice over her punishment and the reason given is that God avenged on her what she had done to them. A mighty angel arrives and casts a great millstone into the sea, which we have learned earlier represents people, saying that the great city Babylon would be overthrown with violence. The extent is explained by noting all of the activities that would not occur anymore. The chapter ends by identifying the city being discussed. It says, "In her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints and of ALL that were slain upon the earth. Go to the study to see the scriptural evidence that this is discussing the destruction of God's physical nation Israel, His physical city Jerusalem and His physical temple in AD 70 by God's agent, the Roman Army. - 6. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write. You must always leave a clear, legible mark no matter how difficult the situation. Fifth:
- 7. The pencil understood, promising to remember, and went into the box fully understanding its Maker's purpose.
- 8. Now replacing the place of the pencil with you; always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
- 9. You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess. One:
