Elementary Keyboarding

Keyboarding is an important skill for elementary students to develop. It should be taught starting in kindergarten to establish good habits and prevent poor habits from forming. Teachers do not need to be expert keyboardists themselves, as programs like Type To Learn can teach keyboarding skills through games and practice. Keyboarding should be reinforced whenever students use computers by monitoring their form, encouraging proper technique, and reinforcing learned skills like identifying home keys.
