I start with the premise that the
function of leadership is to produce
more leaders, not more followers.

~Ralph Nader

                                       4

Leadership is about capacity: the capacity of
leaders to listen and observe, to use their
expertise as a starting point to encourage
dialogue between all levels of decision-making, to
establish processes and transparency in
decision-making, to articulate their own values
and visions clearly but not impose them.

Ann Marie E. McSwain, Assistant Professor at Lincoln University

                                                                  6
Leadership is about setting and not just
reacting to agendas, identifying problems,
and initiating change that makes for
substantial improvement rather than
managing change.

Ann Marie E. McSwain, Assistant Professor at Lincoln University

                                                                    7
"Leadership isn't just about ef鍖ciency
and effectiveness, but also what is
good, what is right, and what makes
sense and what is worth doing."

- Thomas Sergiovanni

"Successful community building
depends in large measure, on each
individual school de鍖ning for itself its
own life and creating for itself its own
practice of schooling.

- Thomas Sergiovanni

This inside-out strategy requires a
considerable amount of searching and
reflection, as teachers struggle with
such issues as who they are, what they
hope to become for the students they
serve, and how they will decide
organize, teach, learn, and live
together."

- Thomas Sergiovanni

Professional Growth & Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong
learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional
community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital
tools and resources. Teachers:

participate in local and global learning communities to explore
creative applications of technology to improve student learning.

exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology
infusion, participating in shared decision making and community
building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of
    others.

evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice
on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging
digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the
teaching profession and of their school and community.

                                                                            15
