Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.

- 2. Double Page Spread
- 3. When beginning my double page spread I created a new layer on which I would place my box out, I used a sea blue outline as this was one of my chosen house colours from my questionnaire results. I then created another layer in which I would place an image of the artist inside the small box. I ensured the image was of a JPEG format. The colour of the headphones that the model is wearing is also blue which adds to the continuation of the chosen house colours.

When placing the text for the box out I ensured all the text had some form of glow to ensure it would stand out and catch the audiences eye¡¯s and draw readers in, I found the inspiration of placing a box out from an Asian music magazine which I found was very different and unique which was clearly ideal for the aim of my magazine, I found it was very useful and peculiar in the sense it addresses the audiences differently form what is typically seen in the average urban music magazine.
- 5. After creating a new layer I opened my central image for my double page spread, the image was of a JPEG format which enabled me to place it on a InDesign document, I placed the image in a ¡°slanted¡± position as I felt it was both unusual and eye catching, which was ideal for my criteria.

I began the process of creating my contents page by creating a new layer on which I was going to place my background image, the image was of a brick wall that I had previously edited on Photoshop, the image itself was of a JPEG format which enabled me to use it on InDesign. After placing the brick wall i then created another layer in which i was going to place my central image which was of a female model wearing a blue top which also showed the continuation of the chosen house colours.
- 9. After creating yet another layer in which I would place the word ¡°content¡± I ensure that the colours where co ordinated with the chosen house colours which where purple and white. When placing the contents of my magazine I used a variety of different fonts and sizes to emphasise the originality and ¡°dysfuntionalism¡± that I was aiming for the magazine to give of. The use of the puff ¡°Exclusive¡± will attract more audiences as it emphasises on the ¡°originality¡± of the magazine and what makes it so different to others.
