(audio available) Why does new technology and automation often worsen the customer's experience? Recently I gave a speech at the Jamaica Customer Service Association Conference - 2013 - in which I addressed the sad reality that customer service professionals are often excluded from the loop when key IT and technology decisions are made. The result is that the customer's experience is worsened, simply because no-one is attending to the right elements of new solutions, particularly those that are customer-facing. Listen to the audio from the speech here - http://goo.gl/pdHDxy - while you view the slides and gain the experience of being at the speech in person!]]>

The speech ran for an hour and included a number of resources that I put together that including a white paper and also the audio to this speech. The speech dealt with advanced techniques that project managers can use to mitigate the risk presented by team members who have weak skills in time management. How can their skills be assessed quickly, and what kinds of behaviours should a project manager watch for? How can an environment be created in which time management skills are openly improved so that project managers don't simply become victims of poor performance by team members? Transforming Time Management Learning with Gamification /slideshow/transforming-time-management-learning-with-gamification/22505100 transformingtimemanagementlearningwithgamification-130605141105-phpapp02
[Audio link - http://archive.org/details/TransformingTimeManagementLearningWithGamification] Here is a description of the second speech I presented at the HRMATT Conference 2013 in Port of Spain. Time management training has traditionally been avoided by most professionals: its consisted of an expert doling out long lists of the perfect behaviours to follow. Furthermore, those who do attend are known to fail after only a few days, reverting to old behaviours, and familiar results. Time Management 2.0 calls for replacing the old one-size-fits-all model entirely; instead, the goal is to teach learners how to effect an upgrade to their time management system on their own, whenever the need arises. The best way to impart these skills is not to teach theory, but to coach learners through their first conscious upgrade during the class using new tools. In this context, immersing learners in a number of in-class training games is an effective way to engage them immediately, while opening them up to new advice. Attendees to this session will learn: - how to analyze learner needs so that nothing is ignored - how to translate needs into games that make a substantial difference - how to learn to use technology to create games At the end, this session will help you go back to the office and design your own learner-centred games.]]>

How Caribbean Executives Can Raise Their Standards /slideshow/how-caribbean-executives-can-raise-their-standards/22505016 howcaribbeanexecutivescanraisetheirstandards-130605140912-phpapp01
[Audio link - http://bit.ly/13F4wFN ] This speech was presented at the HRMATT Conference in Port of Spain on May 13, 2013. Here is the printed description from the brochure: No man, its alright. No problem. The Caribbean is famous for its laid-back attitude, so perfect for getting away from the stresses of the world's capitals. However, its not so much fun when you live here and have to experience this attitude first-hand at the Driver's Licensing Office. Why does this and other awful experiences persist? Our research at Framework Consulting tells us that its a historical backlash. Slavery and indentureship brought harsh consequences for the smallest infractions, and as its descendants we have responded: our workplaces are remarkably free of consequences, feedback and real accountability. Reversing the tide of history will take more than just talk however. A few years ago we embarked on a project to train over 80 of the top executives of a regional conglomerate in three countries - primarily in Trinidad but also in Barbados and Jamaica. Quite separately, we also conducted the same transformation program in these three countries in different companies. We learned that our region's professionals are loathe to give feedback, but also that it's easy to correct the problem with the right intervention using customized cases and video-taped feedback. Come and learn the nuances of changing a core behaviour that plagues Caribbean companies. Time Management for Project Managers - Lessons from Bill /slideshow/lessons-from-bill-for-project-managers/16508531 lessonsfrombillforprojectmanagers-130213103532-phpapp01
This presentation was given to the Project Management Institute's Dr. Bird Chapter in Kingston Jamaica. It describes the journey undertaken by the protagonist in the book "Bill's Im-Perfect Time Management Adventure." In the third part of the book he must find a way to improve the skills of his team-members so that they can fulfill their mandate, and also avoid being laid off due to low productivity. He's forced to take some risks to realize this goal that brings him into direct confrontation with company policies and an employee who wants to see him fail. http://perfect.mytimedesign.com Update: Several months after this speech was delivered, I gave a speech at the PMISCC conference in Trinidad. The link to the contents (audio, slides and paper) are available here - http://perfect.mytimedesign.com/calling-all-project-managers/ ]]>

https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/profile-photo-fwade-48x48.jpg?cb=1700448476 Do you know how managers get frustrated because their employees are working hard, using the latest gadgets but don't seem to be getting more productive or becoming better balanced? I help solve this problem. Using the very latest research, I assist professionals to improve their time-based productivity by showing them how to evaluate their current skills against world-class standards. Once that's done, I teach them how to implement their improvement plans, turning small gains into permanent habits.
