Values refer to the shades of grey between black and white that create light, shadows, and tones in color. A value scale ranges from 0 (black) to 10 (white) to indicate the relative darkness or lightness. High key uses lighter values towards the upper end of the scale while low key uses darker values towards the lower end, creating contrast and focal points through strong differences in value, size, and other qualities. All value transitions should be handled with either a soft or hard edge.
