The Antwerp Port Authority administers the Port of Antwerp and owns its infrastructure including docks, berths, locks and bridges. The port has 6 locks along the Scheldt river ranging from 270-500 meters in length that are responsible for over 5,000 lockages annually. There are also over 20 movable bridges within the port that allow ship and barge passage, ranging from bascule, swing, lifting and Strauss bridge types operated by the Port Authority. Infrastructure maintenance and development is overseen by the Port Authority to ensure efficient navigation and operations across the port.
