How the Internet of Things Will Create a Smart WorldVladimer BotsvadzeThe Internet of Things is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to exchange data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices based on the infrastructure of International Telecommunication Union's Global Standards Initiative. The Internet of Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020.

Bill Aulet GEC2016 keynote speech March 16 2016 Medellin ColombiaMassachusetts Institute of TechnologyThis document outlines Bill Aulet's presentation on improving entrepreneurship education. It discusses defining entrepreneurship, assessing student needs through personas, and designing a comprehensive curriculum with modular "tiles" addressing each persona's needs. The goal is to make entrepreneurship education more rigorous, practical, and tailored through open-source sharing of best practices. This will help address the increasing demand for high-quality entrepreneurship training.
Can We Assess Creativity?John SpencerWith the explosion of the maker movement, schools are beginning to embrace creativity. However, what does this mean for assessment? Should we assess the creative process? Should we assess the finished product? Does assessing creativity actually make kids more risk-averse? In this workshop we explore what it means to assess both the creative process and the creative product without leading to risk aversion.
Guided Reading: Making the Most of ItJennifer JonesThis is my slide deck from my session at the North Carolina Reading Conference last week in Raleigh, NC. I do staff development to schools and districts all over the country about best practices in literacy instruction. This topic is one of my most requested.
Playing with timeline in photoshop cs6baljaadsgThis document provides instructions for creating a light effect animation in Photoshop CS6 using the timeline feature. The steps include: creating layers for the background, pattern fill, and text; applying layer styles like bevel and emboss to the text for a light effect; duplicating the text layer and disabling styles for inner shadows; adding two layers named "right" and "left" and grouping them to paint light spots; using the timeline panel to create position keyframes by selecting the group and setting a keyframe at frame 0 then moving the layers and setting additional keyframes to create the animation. The timeline is used to easily move the light spots on the text over multiple frames to generate the animation.
Thermal photo effectbaljaadsgThis document provides 11 steps to convert a photo into a thermal photo effect. It involves applying adjustments like hue/saturation and gaussian blur. It also uses filters like clouds and blending modes like overlay to create the thermal effect look. White and color layers are filled and blended using modes like difference and darken to achieve the final thermal photo result.

Semicolor transparent chameleon effectbaljaadsgThis document provides instructions for creating a semicolor transparent chameleon effect using layer styles in a graphics program. It instructs the user to create a new 500x500 document filled with any color, then apply a gradient overlay layer style. It then tells the user to add a white shape to the canvas and apply drop shadow, inner shadow, inner glow, bevel and emboss, satin, and gradient overlay layer styles. Finally, it recommends creating additional shapes using the same styles to experiment with blending options and create interesting transparent effects.
Stylish icons for website or multimedia presentationbaljaadsgThe document provides a step-by-step tutorial for creating a stylish icon in Photoshop. It involves first creating layers and shapes using ellipse tools. Gradient overlays and strokes are applied. Additional shapes are made and styles like inner glow and drop shadow are added. Selections are made and tools like dodge and burn are used to add shading and contrast. Custom shapes, distortions, and overlays are applied. Finally, a blurred shadow layer is added to complete the icon.
Neon glowbaljaadsgThis document provides instructions for creating a neon glow effect in 16 steps. It begins with creating a radial gradient from red to black as the base layer. Additional layers are added like duplicating the base layer and changing its blend mode, adding clouds and chrome filters to create a smoky texture, drawing curved lines with the pen tool and applying layer styles to add outer glows and drop shadows, adding text and particles, and finally blending color layers to give the effect a blue-purple hue. The overall goal is to demonstrate how to combine different elements and effects to create an advanced neon glow design.
