Definition of Sportsmanship
 defined as ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in a
game or athletic event
 conduct (as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning
or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport

Definition of Ethical Behavior
 Ethical behavior tends to be good for business and involves demonstrating respect for
key moral principles that include honesty, fairness, equality, dignity, diversity and
individual rights.
 Ethics in sport requires four key virtues: fairness, integrity, responsibility, and respect.
Ethics--Owners and Coaches.
 Owners and coaches need to respect the integrity of other teams and coaches
 They need to be respectful win or lose to the other team
 They make key decisions and need to think about the effects of their decisions and how it will affect
their community around them
Ethics--Owners and Coaches.
 they need to make important decisions and realize the effect it can have on others
 their respect needs to be at the highest level for all players, organizations, owners, and coaches of
other teams
Ethics--Health and Safety.
 sports medicine doctors and physicians
 need to always be on top of injuries and on top of assignments for injured players
 Need to take the right care of everyone no matter the situation, right procedures need to be followed
Ethics--Athletes and Community
 a person's moral responsibilities to others
 players have a duty to give back to the fans that support them through some sort of community
service
 Many athletes have foundations in their names, and offer their notoriety in order to gain support for a
particular cause
 If an athlete shows remorse they deserve to be forgiven because they are human too
Ethics--Fan Behavior
 Fans need to behave, and act respectful throughout all games to both
opposing and their teams
 There is no need for negative comments,swearing at other opponents, or
screaming inappropriate things
Sportsmanship/Ethical Behavior
 punishments for bad behavior will become greater
 rewards for good behavior
 teaching of civility
 standards of sportsmanship need to increase backup from old times
 sportsmanship takes hard work
