The Ministry of Environment & Forests in India published the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules in 2016, which regulate the handling of biomedical waste across various health-related entities. Biomedical waste constitutes a minor proportion of total hospital waste, with most being general waste, while a smaller percentage includes hazardous categories such as infectious and chemical waste. India generates approximately 484 tons of biomedical waste per day, with only 447 tons treated, highlighting a significant issue with untreated waste.
