AGAINST WOMEN By Brooke , Amy and Aimee
Social Injustice
What is Abuse?? Abuse is to treat someone ( person or animal ) with cruelty or violence
Abuse in Mississippi Burning In Mississippi Burning there are social justice issues of racism against colored people in America at the time . At the time in which the movie was set , Black people were disrespected for the littlest things . The white people made sure that the black people had a hard time ; treating them with no dignity , putting them down and attacking them , pretending that nothing had happened
This is the sort of behavior which encourages abuse against women , not just colored people In the movie , the men who participated in attacking the black people stood alongside their friend as he bashed up his wife , for letting the gravesite of the boys slip to the federal agents . Nothing was done about this ,as the woman who was bashed was the deputy chiefs wife . It seems like this attitude is reflected throughout Australia and the world , with abused women being ignored .
油
What has the Federal and State Government done? There are many organizations throughout Australia which aim to stop violence against women One of these is Amnesty International created by the government , who run the campaign Violence Against Women , Australia says NO
The Federal Government has given these organizations very little funding - with only $75.7 million allocated over 4 years given to address the issue The Government has shown that it is hardly interested in the much needed campaigns that deal with the issue Not enough is being done to stop abuse against women . More money needs to be put aside to support these campaigns . Australia needs to follow the lead of other countries and raise awareness and solve the justice issue of abuse against women !!!!

A survey by Amnesty International in 2004 found that in Australia: 57 per cent of women interviewed had experience at least 1 incident of violence in their lifetime 1 in 3 experienced violence in their intimate relationship Indigenous Women are at the Greatest risk Young woman aged 18 to 24 are far more likely to be victims of sexual assault

Catholic Teachings The Catholic Church recognizes that violence especially against the vulnerable and defenseless , is abhorrent Pope John Paul in his 1995 letter to women recognized that Violence Against Women , inside and outside the home is never Justified . He also declared that the time has come to condemn the types of sexual violence which frequently have women for their object .
The Church condemns that the use of the bible supports abusive behavior in any form And explain that religion can be either a resource or a roadblock for battered women
But this view was not always the churches 1st choice There is still major issues involving women roles in the Church - if a woman wants to be a priest or pope or in anyway a leader in the church , they cant The inequality between the sexes is only justified by this
The church aims to overcome the problems of abuse by : Attacking the root of the cause of violence including poverty , substance abuse , lack of opportunity and racism Promote more personal responsibility Confront all forms of abuse against women

How does the school address the issue? School in no way assist the notion that violence against women is OK Actually there is now a no tolerance rule about violence in general in any way or form Every Schools view of violence has changed over the years The cane used to be given to students who misbehaved for the littlest things like forgetting a book or talking in class Since those days school views have changed and now it is forbidden to use violence against a student either male or female.
HSC aims to build a safe and caring environment and bullying is Unwanted , Unwelcome and Unsolicited ! Bullying is Not Tolerated at our school , and therefore any report of it will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken out Teachers are asked to; Report all cases Stop any incident they encounter and take immediate steps to remove the source of distress Students are encouraged to Intervene positively if they observe an incident of bullying Make it clear that bullying isnt acceptable
油
Personal Feelings As a group , we believe that abuse against women is disgusting and that nobody should condone it because men and women are equal And therefore we should be treated the same The Movie Mississippi Burning deals with the issue seriously and made us think about how we can help these women to overcome these horrible acts of cruelty
Most of these women wont tell anyone about it and therefore the situation gets worse . We need to; Speak out against abuse against women Listen to women and Believe them Confront those in authority if they fail to prevent , punish and redress abuse Challenge religious , social and cultural attitudes and stereotypes which diminish womens humanity Promote Womens equal access Support women
What can we do ? As individuals we can try and raise awareness of abuse against women The wider community needs to know that some women are continually being abuse and they are in Great Danger
The Statistics are frightening !!!!!
