Animal husbandry and plant breeding techniques have been applied to increase food production and meet rising demand. For animal husbandry, practices like dairy and poultry farm management focus on housing, feeding, health care and hygiene to boost milk and egg yields. Breeding techniques include inbreeding to increase homozygosity, outbreeding between unrelated animals, and artificial insemination. Plant breeding aims to develop varieties with higher yields, nutrition, stress tolerance and disease/pest resistance through techniques like hybridization, selection, and mutation breeding. Semi-dwarf rice and wheat varieties greatly increased grain production in India.
