- 2. This digipack: Ed Sheeran- X follows a simple colour scheme: black and green. Despite being quite simplistic it acts as a convenience for the audience as its easy to read. Unusually, the symbol x is the main feature of the front cover, with the artist name being hidden away on the side. This is significant because it gives the audience ot infer the traits of his personality, this being that he cares more about his music than his fame,, aspiring many to look up to him and hopefully increasing the revenue for the album. An alternative interpretation is that due to Ed Sheerans previous album: + being such a huge success, fans are likely to make the connection between the albums and therefore recognize the album on the shelf. In terms of the inside of the digipack on the left hand side, there are lots if cartoon drawings in the shape of an X giving it relevance to the album. However it reinforces the creative side of Ed Sheerans personality alongside his music. It also expands his target audience as it infers the album is suitable for those of a younger age because the drawings can be viewed as quite childlike. The CD itself is quite basic The legal information for the album is placed beneath and alongside the barcode as its a necessity to include however it doesnt need to be the main focus. The back cover of the digipack contains the songs in the album, however unlike other mainstream CDs they are on the right hand side, despite those of his main target audience- UK, reading from left to right. The reason behind this is to reinforce the creative side of his music. The image on the back infers Ed Sheeran is arising and breaking out of his shadow. The CD its self in addition, is also quite simplistic making the digipack have a more formal and professional look, attracting those of the older generation.
- 3. The colour scheme of this digipack makes this album more appealing to those of a younger age , in comparison to the very formal look of the magazine advert. The use of the bright colours enables the album to stand out on the shelf, increasing the chances of it being bought. The artists name is prominent on the album in san serif capital letters, this infers shes relying more her fame to sell her album than the music itself, suggesting she's an established and well known artist influencing people to buy her music due to her being respected. The CD itself contains a white background, having connotations of innocence, goodness and purity which is juxtaposed with the red roses. Red roses covey heartfelt sorrow and regret although, at the same time is assoiated with romance. This therefore suggests theres something more to this album that fans of Lana Del Ray are likely to want to discover. The front cover portrays how Lana Del Rey is trying to sell her album through her name rather than through the music. This is shown through the font size of her name, which is large and on the top of the page creating a symbolic hierarchy of importance. In comparison to the album name, born to die which is in a smaller font. However due to being placed near the heart of the artist, it suggests that shes passionate bout her music and it comes from the heart. The use of the direct address creates a relationship between the audience and the artist.
- 4. Looking at the CD itself, the heart infers the album is targeted at females rather than males. However it reinforces how passionate the artist is to her music, suggesting her music comes from the heart. The colour scheme of white and light pink, reinforces this idea of love, setting a tone for the album itself. The font used is a sans- serif font which therefore makes it easy to read, whilst giving the cd a professional look. The CD itself additionally portrays elegance through the simplistic font and minimal writing. The front cover image is very stiking through the close up image of the artist almost breaking out of the page. This combined with the use of the MES: gothic makeup presents Jessie J as someone who's rebellious and here to make a stand. Attracting those who are also ready to break out of their shell. Due to Jessie having a younger fan base, the CD itself tones down the mood for the CD making it appear as more child friendly. The back of the digipack is very basic in comparison to the front cover. This is because those of a older age stereotypically look back of a CD in order to gather more information. However the front cover of the digipack is used to stand out on the shelf making it more likely to be recognized and then bought.
