The Texas outbreak has slowed down, but sporadic cases continue to emerge in Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
Elsewhere in the US, we continue to see signs of acceleration due to outbreaks outside the Southwest (North Dakota, Montana, and Colorado) and travel-related cases. Measles exposures due to travel are expected to pose a significant challenge throughout the summer.
The U.S. is on track to exceed its 30-year high for measles cases (1,274) within the next two weeks.

Job Description for Biomedical Services Unit Technician (70815) Job title Biomedical Services Unit Technician Department Research Technology Platform Grade FA3 Job purpose (a brief summary of the role) To provide assistance and support in the breeding and maintenance of laboratory animals to meet the requirements of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. This role will also perform daily responsibilities in animal care and monitor and report on animal accommodation and environmental conditions. Duties and responsibilities Animal husbandry, welfare and cleaning (80%) Work as part of a team to ensure that animal cages/tanks are cleaned out at least weekly or as required Health checking of animals to insure they are free from injury, disease, pain etc Management of breeding colonies (including GA rodents and fish) to ensure constant supply of animals, without over breeding, and advising researchers on the numbers available Ensuring areas, surfaces and equipment are as clean and sterile as possible to prevent the introduction or spread of disease and infection Covering cage/tank washing, cage preparation and cleaning duties during periods of low staffing Ensuring the security and integrity of the unit is maintained at all times, as the risk of action by animal rights activists is always possible Assist senior staff with their roles as requested Ensuring procedure and containment rooms are fully stocked with consumables and that carbon anaesthetic filters are replaced as required Preparation of aquatic diets with the subsequent feeding of zebra fish There will be some lone working at weekends and holidays (rota basis), to ensure all animals are checked, fed, and the facility and equipment are functioning as required.
