Blood diamonds have fueled deadly civil wars in Africa, with the conflicts being traced back to the diamond trade. The trade has left deep scars across many nations through violence, human rights abuses, and child labor. A 15-year old boy named Stephanus Erasmus Jacobs discovered diamonds on a farm in South Africa, revealing the origin of blood diamonds. During civil wars in countries like Liberia, child soldiers as young as 5 have been forced to fight for militias, becoming feared soldiers while often being threatened, drugged, or made to kill their own families.
