of assignments & projects are given on weekends)
How much sleeping time is needed
          for teens?

According to the American Sleep Disorders
Association, the average teenager needs around 9.5
hours of sleep per night, possibly because hormones
that are critical to growth and sexual maturation are
 released mostly during slumber.
Researchers at Stanford University found in a study
that teenagers require more sleep, by 1 to 2 hours,
than do their younger 9- and 10-year-old siblings, who
only require about 8 hours of sleep.
Is my son deprived of sleep?

Well he is, how about your kid in II-Sycamore?
What is sleep deprivation?

A sufficient lack of restorative sleep over a cumulative
period so as to cause physical or psychiatric symptoms and
affect routine performances of tasks.(Medical Dictionary)
A form of psychological torture inflicted by depriving the
victim of sleep.[Wordnet]
Sleep deprivation is a general lack of the necessary
amount of sleep. This may occur as a result of sleep
disorders, active choice or deliberate inducement such as
in interrogation or for torture.
How does sleep deprivation affect
           our teens?

Sleep deprivation may be undermining teen health-Lack
of sufficient sleep--a rampant problem among teens--
appears to put adolescents at risk for cognitive and
emotional difficulties, poor school performance,
accidents and psychopathology, research suggests.
How does sleep deprivation affect
           our teens?

Too little sleep may cause:
     Memory problems
     Depression
A weakening of immune system, increasing chance of becoming
     sick
     Increase in perception of pain
