Changes in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2013
- Life expectancy increased from around 45 years before 2001 to over 60 years now due to improved access to food, nutrition, and health services. Education levels also greatly increased, with the number of students rising from under 1 million to over 8 million and the number of universities growing from 8 to over 105. Infrastructure like asphalted roads expanded from 3,200 miles to over 7,450 miles. Access to communication technology notably improved as well, with the number of people owning mobile phones rising to around 15 million compared to just 10,000 with landlines before 2001.
