Chek Jawa, located on the eastern tip of Pulau Ubin, is an inter-tidal area comprising six distinct habitats and is part of Singapore's broader development plans. A significant reclamation project was proposed for the area, which led to a contestation between development and conservation efforts, culminating in public awareness campaigns and grassroots movements advocating for its preservation. In a historic decision, reclamation was deferred in 2002 due to the public's growing support for nature conservation.
