A keynote for the 2015 We are Museums Conference in Berlin, Germany.
Museums why should we care? Much has been written about the changes our culture is experiencing as institutions that once held a place of primary esteem have now somehow become less important than they once were. Museums are at the crux of this change and are wondering how we might preserve and bottle the relevance we hold with our audiences. At the same time, we find that relevance to be changing, ephemeral, and eroding.
How should museums answer these fundamental questions about our impact and why we matter at all? When challenged to defend the public investment and trust that we have stewarded for so many years, are we prepared to give a good account?
In this talk, Rob will expand on his seminal article about museum impact, Museums So What? and will provide new insights and opportunities for museums to look towards to document and demonstrate actual real impact that museums provide and the tangible benefits museums can bring to their communities.
Museums so what? will follow up on his much discussed article from the CODE|WORDS series on Medium.

The document discusses how Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white girl, to portray racial discrimination in the town of Maycomb. It also examines how Lee shows gender inequity through the young narrator Scout, who sees prejudice against those who don't conform to social norms, including Boo Radley. The racial prejudice is further highlighted through Atticus's defense of Tom Robinson in court, despite the town's racist views.
The document presents three scenarios for the future of poverty in 2039: continued growth, collapse, and transformation. It analyzes how six drivers - education, government, security, social identity, global economy, and technology - could impact poverty under each scenario. In the continued growth scenario, mass urbanization benefits the environment and humanity while climate initiatives succeed. In the collapse scenario, effects of climate change are accepted and the focus is maintaining existing infrastructure. In the transformation scenario, gene therapy extends lifespans greatly but access is unequal, creating divisions between augmented rich and dependent poor populations.

The Student-Inquirer Identity During the Master Thesis in an Online UniversityAngelos Konstantinidis
油
When students are conducting their research project as part of their studies, they can be better prepared for the societal and professional challenges of the future. This study contributes to the research of the inquirer identity by elaborating a model for the assessment of student-inquirer identity skills in light of the development of a master thesis in an education-related field in an online university. The model presents student-inquirer identity as a dynamic multiplicity of ten skills related to the five phases of the practice of inquiry (search and focus, understand and explore, design and implement, interpret/evaluate and reflect, write and present). Based on the model, a questionnaire that measures students inquiry skills during the development of the master thesis was constructed. The questionnaire is comprised of ten sub-scales with 42 Likert-type items in total. 154 students of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya responded to the questionnaire. Findings revealed that, overall, online students develop inquiry skills to a moderate extent while conducting their master thesis.

Blind spots in AI and Formulation Science, IFPAC 2025.pdfAjaz Hussain
油
The intersection of AI and pharmaceutical formulation science highlights significant blind spotssystemic gaps in pharmaceutical development, regulatory oversight, quality assurance, and the ethical use of AIthat could jeopardize patient safety and undermine public trust. To move forward effectively, we must address these normalized blind spots, which may arise from outdated assumptions, errors, gaps in previous knowledge, and biases in language or regulatory inertia. This is essential to ensure that AI and formulation science are developed as tools for patient-centered and ethical healthcare.
Blind Spots in AI and Formulation Science Knowledge Pyramid (Updated Perspect...Ajaz Hussain
油
This presentation delves into the systemic blind spots within pharmaceutical science and regulatory systems, emphasizing the significance of "inactive ingredients" and their influence on therapeutic equivalence. These blind spots, indicative of normalized systemic failures, go beyond mere chance occurrences and are ingrained deeply enough to compromise decision-making processes and erode trust.
Historical instances like the 1938 FD&C Act and the Generic Drug Scandals underscore how crisis-triggered reforms often fail to address the fundamental issues, perpetuating inefficiencies and hazards.
The narrative advocates a shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, adaptable systems prioritizing continuous enhancement. Key hurdles involve challenging outdated assumptions regarding bioavailability, inadequately funded research ventures, and the impact of vague language in regulatory frameworks.
The rise of large language models (LLMs) presents promising solutions, albeit with accompanying risks necessitating thorough validation and seamless integration.
Tackling these blind spots demands a holistic approach, embracing adaptive learning and a steadfast commitment to self-improvement. By nurturing curiosity, refining regulatory terminology, and judiciously harnessing new technologies, the pharmaceutical sector can progress towards better public health service delivery and ensure the safety, efficacy, and real-world impact of drug products.

Speaker: Aalok Sonawala
The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APMs Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APMs PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMOs within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.

enjoy their coffee, lunch or dinner. For this
reason we decided to take a walk... The best of
all is that we will have free time to talk to each
other . It will be an unforgettable experience!
10. The water sources of Saint Barbara is a natural wetland
in the centre of the city of Drama and it is fairly
considered as the unique characteristic of the city.
12. We will have lunch and dinner in the area of Saint
Barbara! Meeting over lunch or dinner is always an
excellent opportunity to exchange views and ideas and a
starting point for lively discussions.
13. A visit to the Social Solidarity Clinic
of Drama
What keeps our society together?
This question is difficult to answer especially
under the experience of the economic crisis,
the impacts of capitalism and globalization,
and the rise of fascism in Europe.
Economic crisis in Greece is a result of a long
period of political alienation. Citizens feel that
laws are broken down, political decisions are
unclear and unpredictable, and that they
cannot influence the actions of the
government. Social challenges of the last
decade require us to make fast steps in our
understanding of how our societal and political
future can be managed in a sustainable way.

Greece
14. Greek society is in emergency as
austerity measures imposed by the Greek
government and the International
Monetary Fund (IMF) hit the most
vulnerable groups (unemployed, poor)
and the middle class, leaving the Crisis is not the problem of the
wealthiest people (e.g. bankers, poor but the solution of the rich
industrialists) almost unharmed.
Official unemployment rates reach 28%,
while the rate comes up to 58% for the
youth between 18-35 years old.
At the same time there is no growth plan
to reverse the slide and lead to new jobs.
Poverty rates at 30% while wage and
pension cuts have reached 40% of the
annual revenue since 2010.
15. What is more, the health care
system has suffered severe cuts;
hence, for example, public
health insurance funds can
cover less than 50% of the
medical treatment received.
This period is marked by a dramatic
increase in suicides in Greece. It
was estimated that the suicide rate
in Greece was among the lowest in
the world before 2009 (2.8 per
100.000 people), yet now it has
been doubled at about 5 people per
100.000.
16. Meanwhile, European citizens can hardly understand
what is really going on in Greece as reports and policy
briefs do not unveil real conditions, since the corrupted
Greek government has embarked on a crusade to silence
dissident voices. This crusade to its extreme led to the
arrest of a journalist for publishing the names of
hundreds of rich
Greeks suspected of
tax evasion. And all
that are merely the
beginning.
The present is
burdensome and the
future is expected to
be dark
17. The Social Solidarity Clinic of
Drama (SSCD) is a self-
organised initiative that resists
to the austerity and inhuman
measures imposed by the Greek
government and the IMF.
SSCD is not a charity act; rather
it is a symbol of political
solidarity, direct democracy,
citizens autonomy and isonomy.
18. The National Health System excludes
more and more people, yet we
believe that access to health care is
a fundamental human right. For
that cause, SSCD provides primary
medical treatment and preventive
healthcare to all people who cannot
afford healthcare expenses,
regardless of race, religion, and
origin. Moreover, SSCD exerts
pressure on the state in order to
provide free access to secondary
and tertiary health care to all
people who have no health
insurance.
19. People of different professions and
skills participate and offer their
services voluntarily in SSCD. Yet,
the organizational structure of
SSCD is non-hierarchical and open
where every single member of the
group has an equal say in all
matters. What is more, SSCD is
completely independent of political
parties or other institutional and
corporate structures. And this is
one of the fundamental goals of
SSCD: people participating in
SSCD exercise autonomy, or
simply put, they act knowing that
it is themselves and not some
external force that determines or
leads them.
