Loose connective tissue is found in the submucosa of the digestive tract, subcutaneous tissue of certain regions, and interior of organs where it binds lobes and lobules. It also occurs in the choroid and sclera of the eye where pigment cells are present. Dense irregular connective tissue is located in the reticular dermis layer, sheaths of muscles and nerves, adventitia of large blood vessels, and capsules of glands and organs. Regular connective tissues compose ligaments, tendons, and aponeurosis and contain collagen, with some ligaments also containing elastin like the ligamenta flava and vocal cords.
