Personal Profile:
I am hard working and a motivated individual who adopts an efficient and flexible approach to work and is able to adapt to
meet the changing needs of the business. Adaptable, quick to learn and enjoys working as part of a team. I possess a positive
outlook to work and life in general. Offering a calm and level headed approach even under pressure, whether it’s a 30 billion
dollar business like Mars Petcare working within a large team or just me working to a deadline.
CURRENT EMPLOYMENT:
Chemring Defense UK (May 15 – Nov 15).
Manufacturing Engineer
This position had me focused on the factory processes and how to improve output, quality and safety for a very
labour intensive production factory. By confirming current cycle times and calculating capability of each process
allowed me to adjust output targets. With the involvement of Team leaders, operators and indirect support teams I
would set up a series of process improvement trials that would formulate a plan to improve the process efficiency.
Once a plan had been agreed I would design and commission any tooling, jigs, set up any kanbans that are required
and implement the trials. If the trial is successful and all proofs pass I would then amend or rewrite the relevant
process instructions/risk assessments and PPE requirements before training the process out fully. The team leaders
would then be instructed to adjust SIC board to reflect new target. This role also saw me overseeing quality
reworks, manufacturing sign off for new machines before coming to site and being involved in product redesign on
a day to day basis.
PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
Mars Petcare UK (Jan 99 – May 15).
Continuous Improvement Technician
The role involved working closely with operators in the factory to understand and improve current ways of
working to increase efficiency. This is done through a good understanding of the factory process, being able to
identify bottlenecks in the pipeline and data collection to create the KPI’s to demonstrate past and future
performance. This is accomplished by using lean problem solving methodology (5Y, 5S, PDCA, Kaizan) to find
root cause and a number of possible solutions. My findings and solutions are then presented to senior department
heads using Power Point, Excel, PI data link, Word and AutoCAD for final approval. Once approved I then drive
each project through our technical and financial departments until implemented. Each project is given a nurturing
period to prove an increased efficiency.
Raws Logistics scheduler
Over the last 18 months I have been in a day’s logistics scheduler role on assignment covering whilst new factory system
projects are being design and implemented. The main responsibility within this role is to ensure all raw materials are
available within our 3rd
party warehouses to keep the factory running and be able to react to any changes within the
schedule. Whilst continuing to reduce and maintain a minimum stock level of over a hundred different raw materials. The
fact that this is a 50 year old factory and some of our assets are continually being repaired and replaced has made it very
challenging at times and also rewarding when I can offer a plan that will work at short notice. This was done through
maintaining very good relationships with all of our suppliers and excellent communication though a number of different
functions across the supply chain. The software use to manage this was SAP r3 and more recently SAP Atlas, both used
alongside Mixrecs recipe management and preactor planning tool.
Factory Scheduler
The 3 years prior to the Raws Logistics role I had been a shift based factory scheduler managing factory stocks and any out
of hour’s changes to the factory plan in the short term. It was also my responsibility to manage any recipe changes due to
material shortages. The majority of my work used Mixrecs recipe management, SAP and Excel spread sheets.
Process operator/Plant Emergency Team
My time with Mars started me as a process operator within the canning area of the factory producing high quality, right first
time product being accountable for a number of quality and hygiene checks. It also became part of my role to train both
contractors and new associates to the same high standard. I have also been involved in many maintenance tasks working
alone and within a team to fix production and safety issues. For this I have used AutoCAD to help design out operational
issues and present to management for funding. Having become proficient in both filling and prep over about 5 and a half
years I chose to broaden my skills into the packaging side of the factory. This move allowed me to start to understand the
different product formats and challenges faced within the packaging area and gave me a real understanding of how the
factory runs from end to end. This overall understanding of how the factory runs lead me to cover role as a cell leader,
managing the operators within packaging, and covering the shift schedulers which lead to me becoming a factory scheduler.
I have also been an active member of the Plant Emergency Team for a few years and have had to be trained in first aid,
confined space rescue and fire response which I have attended a number of incidents.
Universal Conveyor Company Ltd. (Oct 96 – Jan 99)
Mechanical Detail CAD Draughtsman / System Supervisor
I started at UCC as the only CAD draughtsman within an office of 18 drawing board draughts men to produce accurate
working drawings for their first CAD contract, but as more CAD contracts cam in it became my mission to start training
these draughts men in the use of CAD and highlight the benefits of CAD over the drawing board whilst maintaining my own
work load. As more and more work for the CAD came in I was tasked with redesigning an old storage room into a CAD
office that was fit for purpose. This was to include networking all of the PC’s, providing backups and full system support
and assistance for the now 10 CAD draughts men.
Vogal Industrial Electrical (Feb 95 – Oct 96)
Electrical/mechanical C.A.D. operator
As the main CAD operator I was responsible for all of the drawings going out to the customers to ensure they are to their
requirements. Working directly for the project engineers I have to work from rough sketches drawn out on site and
reproduce them as a final working drawing. I also assisted electricians when required, out on site.
Nugent Computer Graphics (Jan 91 – Jan 99)
C.A.D. Draughtsman
I worked on a freelance basis dealing directly with senior management quoting on specific projects for number of different
clients. In order to gain new business all responsibility was down to me. This always involved working to tight deadlines
and maintaining high standards of work.
Plant Process Design (PPD) (Jan 91 – Oct 92)
C.A.D. Draughtsman
The majority of work in this role involved working on electrical circuit diagrams for electrical engineers to follow on site
and for the customer’s future reference. On occasion I had to create presentation documents of high standards for
management to clients.
Stained Glass Workshop (Jan 91 – Jan 99)
Leaded Window Repair & Graphic Designer
Working within the family business this role involved working on design and construction of stained glass windows,
terrariums and other glass items. I also met with the customers to find out their exact requirements, and for their approval. I
also ran a stall at the local craft fair at the weekends.
Oakdale Control Ltd. (Dec 90 – Dec 91)
Computer Aided Designer
As the sole CAD operator, my responsibility was to work directly and efficiently for all engineers at all levels. I also worked
from rough sketches and turned them into final working drawings, which were to be handed to clients. The role also
involved drafting both electrical and mechanical drawings. On occasions I assisted with the assembly of control and
simulation panels and liaison with clients.
Hipkins Sims Sanderson Partnership (Jul 89 – Dec 90)
Architectural Technician
My responsibility was to modify and create drawings on a drawing board with only outline measurement obtained on site,
and be able to work off my own initiative to create the dream of our clients whilst working within the strict planning laws
and building regulations.
