The purpose of the present study was to compare the peak impact force-reducing abilities of point-elastic and area-elastic sports 鍖oors in series with shoes. A secondary purpose was to design, construct and validate a modi鍖ed version of the Berlin Arti鍖cial Athlete method (MBAA). Three different 鍖oors: A concrete, a hard court and a wooden 鍖oor were tested by measuring impact forces alone and in series with shoes when dropping the MBAA onto each 鍖oor-shoe combination. The impact force reduction was then calculated and compared with concrete, which is considered a non-absorbent 鍖oor. Peak impact forces on hard court (point-elastic) and wooden 鍖oor (area-elastic) were found to be 6731賊141 N (102 % of concrete) and 3023賊178 N (54 % of concrete), respectively, thus verifying that the wooden 鍖oor is the more force-reducing. When testing three different shoes and 鍖oors in series, the shoes additionally reduced force by 25-34, 27-35 and 16-19 percent points on concrete, hard court and wooden 鍖oor, respectively. In addition, the shoe type was more in鍖uential on the concrete and hard court 鍖oors than on wooden 鍖oor. This is expressed by a larger difference between the force-reducing abilities between the shoes, 9 and 2 percentage points for hard court and wooden 鍖oor, respectively. This indicates that area-elastic 鍖oors have signi鍖cant in鍖uence on impact force reduction in sports. The MBAA is lighter and less costly to produce compared with the unmodi鍖ed version. The standard deviations were found to be suf鍖ciently small to assume that the MBAA was a reliable method for testing impact forces on 鍖oors with and without shoes in series. In addition, the peak impact forces found by the MBAA were within the 250 N range of the theoretical maximum impact force described in the European standard for Surfaces for sports areas, thus making it valid a method for testing peak impact forces on sports 鍖oors.Renaix Co-Brochure

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is an important vegetable crop in the tropics. Beer brewing is an intricate process encompassing mixing and further elaboration of four essential raw materials. Sakkara, Sri Lankan name for jiggery made by sugar cane stem extract. Sakkara Brewing (SBr) is also an intricate process like beer. It has reported that foliar application of beer and SBr resulted in significant growth stimulation in plants. The objectives of the present study were to compare the effects of five commercially available beer products and SBr on growth, flowering and fruit setting of cucumber plants. The study was conducted at farmers poly tunnel in a Completely Randomize Design with seven treatments randomized in five replicates. The treatments were T1 Carlsberg Special Brew (8.8% Ethanol), T2 Carlsberg (4.8% Ethanol), T3 Lion Strong (8.8% Ethanol), T4 Lion Stout (8.8% Ethanol), T5- Lion Larger (4.8% Ethanol), T6 SBr (2.2% ethanol, 4% methanol, 2.4 x 104 yeast cells per 1mm3 and PH= 3.36) and T7 Control (without spraying). Plants were established in pots and standard crop management practices were done. Products were sprayed to the seedlings 15 days after sowing and continued 6 times at 10 days intervals. Measurements were taken on growth, flowering and Fruit setting stages. The higher values of plant growth, reproductive and yield parameters were observed in beer and SBr applied treatments compared to control. SBr is very low cost product compared to commercially available beer. So, it can be recommended for vegetable cultivation as economically feasible and eco-friendly organic product.
