It states that an AI/ML system reduced processing time by 94%, increased accuracy of real-time responses to customers by 60%, and reduced machine downtime by 30% within one year. It also discusses an experiment where participants played a coin flipping game with a 60% chance of heads and were given $25 to start with the goal of maximizing their ending balance up to a $250 maximum payout.
The document contains repeated text listing various terms related to SAP's digital technologies including: employee empowerment, the internet of things, business networks, user experience, digital core, HANA platform, SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HCP, and SAP HEC. The text is repeated across 18 sections with the same copyright notice at the top of each section.
The document discusses the potential of in-memory databases and real-time analytics using SAP's HANA platform. It provides examples of how HANA has allowed companies like Yodobashi and Mitsui Knowledge Industry to gain real-time insights from massive amounts of data and enable more personalized and faster decisions. The document also outlines how HANA aims to converge database, data processing, and application capabilities to power next-generation applications.
The document discusses a business analytics networking event held on June 12, 2013 at SUN Plaza in Istanbul. It focuses on SAP's strategy, solutions, and current position in 2013 regarding cloud applications, analytics, digital transformation, and mobile technologies. SAP aims to double its addressable market reach from $110 billion in 2010 to $230 billion by 2015 by reinventing itself around in-memory, core, cloud, and mobile technologies with a goal of reaching one billion people.
The document summarizes SAP's performance in 2012, including a 25% increase in software revenue, 160 million euros in SAP HANA revenue, and adding 15 million cloud customers. It then discusses SAP Turkey's 2012 strategy of focusing on five market categories: applications, analytics, mobile, technology & database, and cloud. The event was the Analytics & Innovation Forum '12, with speakers from SAP, Sybase, and Turkiye Is Bankasi.
1) SAP HANA is an in-memory database that allows for real-time analytics by storing and processing large amounts of data in memory rather than on disk.
2) It provides faster processing speeds than traditional disk-based databases by keeping all the data in RAM, allowing for faster queries, reporting, planning and advanced analytics.
3) SAP HANA combines both software and optimized hardware to deliver an in-memory computing platform for real-time analytics and applications.
The End of an Architectural Era Michael Stonebrakerugur candan

The document argues that current relational database management systems (RDBMSs) are outdated and should be completely redesigned due to significant changes in hardware, software, and usage patterns over the past 25+ years. It presents evidence that a new OLTP prototype called H-Store outperforms a popular RDBMS by over two orders of magnitude on the TPC-C benchmark. Key points made include that RDBMSs were designed for a single market in different hardware conditions, but now multiple specialized engines could dominate individual markets.
This document discusses the case for RAMClouds, which are storage systems that keep all data in DRAM rather than on disk. The key points made in the summary are:
1) RAMClouds could provide 100-1000x lower latency and 100-1000x greater throughput than current disk-based storage systems by eliminating disk I/O.
2) RAMClouds would simplify application development, enable richer queries, and provide scalable storage for cloud computing by eliminating many scalability issues faced by disk-based systems.
3) Motivations for RAMClouds include improving application scalability beyond what is possible with disk-based databases, and the trend of disk technology improvements not keeping pace with increases
The document discusses how SAP In-Memory Appliance Software (SAP HANATM) uses SAP In-Memory Computing technology and the performance and reliability of the Intel Xeon processor E7 family to dramatically improve the speed of data analysis, enabling business intelligence to be generated in real time. That capability increases the value of business data with more sophisticated decision support than has been possible with solutions based on traditional disk-based systems. The document also describes how Intel and SAP have extensively collaborated on optimizing SAP HANATM to take advantage of Intel's processor innovations and hardware features.
The Berkeley View on the Parallel Computing Landscapeugur candan
油
This document discusses the need for a new approach to hardware and software for parallel computing. It argues that the conventional wisdom about uniprocessor architectures is outdated given physical limits. A group of researchers from UC Berkeley met to discuss parallelism and developed 7 questions to frame research. They identified 13 computational patterns or "dwarfs" that will be important for the next decade. The document discusses building hardware from small cores, connecting processors, the need for a new human-centric programming model, and testing models with human subjects. It calls for innovations in both hardware and software to address the challenges of parallel computing.

Exadata is Oracle's hardware and software solution that combines Oracle database servers with specialized storage servers. While Exadata improves Oracle's I/O performance, it does not fundamentally change Oracle's underlying shared disk architecture that is better suited for transactions than complex analytics. As a result, Exadata provides less performance improvement for data warehousing workloads than Oracle claims. The performance issues stem from Oracle's reliance on shared disk resources that limit scalability for analytics workloads.
1) Current database management systems (DBMS) vendors take a "one size fits all" approach that is no longer suitable for different data and usage types.
2) Specialized architectures can outperform general-purpose row-oriented DBMSs by over 50 times in domains like data warehousing and online transaction processing (OLTP).
3) The DBMS market will likely transition over the next decade from "one size fits all" systems to specialized architectures tailored for individual domains like analytics, OLTP, scientific data, and streaming data. This will challenge traditional DBMS vendors.

#3: Todays world is changing quickly Digital is everywhere
Technology is backbone of the Digital Economy
When we deposit a check using our Smart Phone were a part of the Digital Economy. When we go for a run wearing a FitBit were part of the Digital and lets say we are not buying groceries online, but were in the store using our loyalty card we are still part of the Digital Economy.
The Digital Economy is the world we live in today, whether we think we are a part of it or not and whether we work for SAP or not.
This world we live in is changing faster than ever before because of the technology available at massive scale today.
We interact with these technologies every day in our personal lives and our work lives, and they are all around us to the point we sometimes forget they are there.
Lets take a closer look at 5 of the major technology trends happening right now:
Hyperconnectivity
A SmartPhone is an easy example. We check it at all hours of the day and in any place we can probably imagine.
We use it for email, restaurant reservations, video conferencing, reading our favorite newspaper, and staying connected to the world through hundreds of thousands of apps.
Its no longer just our phone. It is our watch. Our computer. Our stereo. Our bank. Our scrapbook. Our business home. It isnt just a phone, in fact, some people may not even use it to make calls anymore.
This dramatically impacts our expectations in terms of speed of service, response time, and productivity.
And it is not just with our phone that we are connected pretty much 24h a day 7 days a week, but also our Smart Watch, Smart TV, Tablet, Computer and all other connected devices we own and use. And every time we use these devices, we use data and leave a trail of data.
There are no signs of mobile devices decreasing in relevance, rather the latest estimates believe 90% of the worlds population over 6 years old will have some sort of mobile device by 2020.
Big Data
We hear about Big Data all the time, but what does it really mean?
Big Data is what enables Amazon to tell you that they are having a sale on your favorite brand of sneakers in your favourite color. Or how Netflix is able to recommend a new TV show thats similar to that one you just finished watching last night.
But it is also what enabled Target, the US retailer, to approach women in early stages of pregnancy with offers of diapers and baby clothes before they had told friends and family of their news (link to the story below).
You may find this scary or just a sign of the times, but theres a good chance that the Google Search function knows more about how youre doing than your closest family members.
Big Data is growing and were just at the beginning of how this information will be used 44 Trillion gigabytes of data will be generated by 2020. And it is estimated only 1% of that data is being analyzed.
Cloud Computing
Cloud has existed for as long as the internet has, but it wasnt called Cloud back then. But if you ever had a Hotmail, Yahoo mail, or Gmail account then youve been operating in the Cloud.
The big difference now is that software is being sold and used in the Cloud. You can see entire business models in the Cloud with companies like Salesforce and Workday.
With the Cloud, you dont need to own or build a big IT infrastructure or giant data center anymore. You can just buy these computing capabilities from someone else and have it deployed in the Cloud - that gives anyone access to large scale computing capabilities at a low cost.
Did you know - 36% of all data produced in the world will be stored in the Cloud by 2016
Intelligent World
Hollywood has done a great job telling stories about Artificial Intelligence in movies like Robocop and Terminator. While we may have called these movies Science Fiction back when they came out, today they could be headlines from the news. Artificial Intelligence is real and more and more a part of our daily lives.
We can now play games on our SmartPhones or laptops with players specifically designed to help us improve our skill level. Doctors are using 3D printers to create ears, valves, knees, and the medical community is just getting started.
Sensors, robotics, 3D printing and artificial intelligence are becoming normal and these intelligent technologies will increasingly impact our lives and the way we do business.
Cybersecurity
As we increasingly use and rely on technology, it gives wrong doers a new set of weapons to attack, undermine and disrupt businesses and financial markets.
In late 2014, the world watched as a U.S. entertainment industry leader was attacked by cyber terrorists, and it exposed a new reality for businesses, governments, and individuals operating in todays Digital Economy.
Trust and privacy are things we value, and as we discussed, some companies know a lot about us and store our private and professional data, pictures, Likes, Tweets, and other information.
The more we put out there, the more security becomes a major issue. And businesses who are proactively focusing on security are getting a competitive advantage in the market and enhancing their reputations in the process.
We can see how all of these technologies impact our work and personal lives, but they also have a tremendous impact on business and the global economy.
Digital technologies have changed the rules of business and some industries have been more impacted than others - think about the travel and hotels, taxis, newspapers, retailers, and banks. All industries are being impacted and there are no signs that the disruptions will stop.
Businesses have no choice but to re-invent themselves, and if they dont, someone else will.
Here are a few companies that have changed the game for their industries:
Under Armour
Facebook
Uber
Siemens
Alibaba
