Digipak is a patented packaging format created in 2000 as an alternative to jewel cases. It uses a book-style outer binding made of cardboard with one or more plastic trays inside to hold a CD, DVD, or both. Digipaks were first adopted by major record companies. They self-contain discs better than jewel cases and allow for graphics on both the inside and outside, making them more visually interesting. Digipaks are commonly used for CD singles or special editions.
