One wise English proverb says: “Idleness is the mother of all evil”. How do you

sister’s room. Dick has a puppy named Jip and three rabbits. His father helped him
to make houses for Jip and the rabbits. In the living-room there is a small table
with a lamp on it which Dick’s father made.
Dick’s sister Mary is fond of making things with a needle, thread and scissors. She
likes to sew. She likes to make puppets, dolls and other toys. She usually makes

“Who helped you to make this house for your pet dog, Mike?” my friend asked.
“This boy is diligent in everything he does. He does his work first and then has

T: Exchange your cards and correct the mistakes if there are any.
VIII. DRAMATIZING
T: And now children you are a little tired. Let’s have some fun and act out a
funny story by R. Kipling. Our young actors and actresses, you are welcome!
HOW THE CAMEL GOT HIS HUMP
The Author: In the beginning of years, when the animals were just beginning to
work for Man there was a Camel and he lived in the middle of the desert because
he did not want to work and when anybody spoke to him he said, “Humph” just
“Humph” and no more. One Monday morning the horse came to him and said.
The Horse: “Camel? Oh Camel, come out and play like the rest of us”
The Camel: “Humph!”
The Author: Then the Dog came to the Camel and said:
“Camel, oh Camel! Come and fetch and carry like the rest of us.
The Camel: “Humpf”’
An Ox: “A Camel, oh a Camel, Come and plough, like the rest of us”
The Camel: “Humpf”
The author: At the end of the day the Man called the Dog, the Horse and the Ox
together and said:
The Man: “I am very sorry of you, but the Camel in the desert won’t work, so I
am going to leave him alone, and you must work twice as long to make up for it.”
The Author: Soon there came the Djinn of all deserts. He came in a cloud of dust.
The animals begin to talk to the Djinn.
The Horse: “Djinn of all desert, is it right for anyone to be idle? There is a thing
in the middle of your desert with a longneck and along legs and he has not done
any work since Monday morning when the work began. He won’t work like the
rest of us”
The Djinn: “Whew! That’s my Camel! What does he say about this?”
The Animals: Only “Humph!” and he doesn’twant to do anything
The Djinn: “Very good! I’ll humph him if you just wait a minute! (He flew to the
Camel). My dear friend, what’s this I hear, you don’t want to do any work, when
the world is so new-and-all? You’ve given the Horse, the Dog and the Ox more
work since Monday morning because of your idleness.”
The Camel: “Humpf!”
The Djinn: “I should not say it again if I were you! You say I too often. I want you
to work!”
The Camel: “Humpf!”
The Author: “And right at that moment he saw his back in a pool of water. On it a
great humph was growing.”
The Djinn: “Do you see that? That’s your own humph you have brought upon
yourself becauseyou didn’t want to work like the rest of the animals.”
The Camel: “How can I work with this humph on my back?”
The Djinn: “I did it on purpose, because you have missed first three days. You
will be able to work now for three days and not eat anything, because you can live
on your humph. Come out to the desert and go to the rest of the others and
behave.”
The Author: “And he Camel went to join the Horse, the Dog and the Ox. And
from that day to this the Camel always wears a humph (we call it a “hump” now),
but he has never yet caught up with the three days that he missed at the beginning
of the world, and he has never yet learned how to behave.”
Feedback:
T: Do you like the fairytale? Do you enjoy your friends’ acting? Whose acting
was the funniest? Tell me please, what is the moral of the story?
The pupils: It’s not right to be idle!
IX. Home assignment
T: You are quite right. Please, choose the episode from the fairytale you like the
most and retell it. You can also draw a picture of it.
X. Evaluation
T: Thank you children! Everybody has done his best today. You will get only
excellent and good marks. Good-bye, seeyou later!
